The Giulia Manfrini Italian surfer killed by swordfish died after being hit by the long beak of the fish as she surfed off Masokut Island in Indonesia.
An Italian surfer died on Friday after being attacked by a swordfish man who pierced her chest in western Indonesia, the authorities confirmed on Tuesday.
“It is overrated off the island of Masokut. A swordfish suddenly jumped and hit her in the chest,” caused a five-centimetre deep wound, said Lahmudin Siregar, acting director of the Mentawai Islands Disaster Prevention Agency. ‘She was taken to the nearest clinic, but died on arrival,’ he added.
Giulia Manfrini was a 36-year-old Italian influencer who gathered more than 29,000 followers on Giulia Manfrini Instagram account ( and co-founded a surf travel agency. Last year, American professional surfer Mikala Jones died at the age of 44 after an accident in the same area of Indonesia.
