Director Denis Villeneuve has stated that social media and cell phones have no place on a Dune set.

In a recent, extensive interview with the Los Angeles Times that was released on Thursday, December 26, the 57-year-old director gave an explanation of why he does not allow his crew and actors to bring certain gadgets to the set.

According to the Academy Award-nominated director, “cinema is an act of presence.” “A painter must be completely focused on the colour he is applying to the canvas while painting.”

According to the director, the dancer’s gestures provide the same effect. A filmmaker must accomplish this with a crew, and all members must be totally present, attentive, and in a relationship with one another. 

Denis Villeneuve went on, “So, since day one, telephones have also been prohibited on my set. It is prohibited. You don’t want someone to check his Facebook account on his phone when you say “cut.”

The director gave another explanation for his occasional distaste for technology earlier in the discussion.

Denis Villeneuve told Deadline in October that he was already in the “writing zone” for a third movie, which would be an adaptation of Hubert’s Dune: Messiah. He does, however, consider Dune and Dune: Part Two to be “one entity” and a “finished” film.
