After being carried off the field on a stretcher after a helmet-to-helmet collision against the Houston Texans on Sunday, Miami wide receiver Grant DuBose was taken to the hospital in stable condition and was undergoing additional evaluation.

In the third quarter, DuBose attempted to make a catch, but rookie Calen Bullock struck him in the head before his head struck the ground with force. After the blow, he seemed to clench both fists, which is known as the “fencing response” and can occur frequently following a traumatic brain injury. He then remained still while medical staff hurried to his side.
While receiving treatment from emergency medical professionals, Grant DuBose stayed on the field for over ten minutes. Players from both teams watched in alarm as his jersey was ripped off and a neck brace was placed on him.
After a while, Grant DuBose was removed from the field and placed on a spine board with his arms and legs strapped down. He had some sort of tube in his mouth, and as he was removed from the area, there was no sign of movement.
Having suffered several concussions during his NFL career, including one that required him to be carried off the field on a stretcher at Cincinnati in 2022, Tagovailoa was sorry to witness his teammate’s ordeal.
After suffering a shoulder injury early in the season, DuBose, who was selected in the seventh round the previous season, made a comeback on Sunday.

During the second quarter of that game, Lawrence was rushing around. Before Al-Shaair lifted his forearm and slammed into the helpless quarterback, he started a slide. He also demonstrated the “fencing response,” but he quickly stood up on his own initiative and made his way to a wagon, which removed him from the field.
