Born April 10, 1952 in Lansing, Michigan, Steven Seagal is an actor and director. The son of Patricia, a medical technician, and Samuel, a mathematics teacher, he lived in Lansing until he was five years old before moving. With his two brothers and his sister and their parents, they settled in Fullerton, California.
At the age of seven, Steven Seagal discovered a passion for martial arts. He began practicing karate and aikido, and began performing in martial arts establishments in California. After a brief stint at Buena Park University, the young man went to live in Japan in 1971, in order to improve his martial arts. There, he earned his black belt in kendo, aikido, judo or karate and was one of the first foreigners to own a dojo.

In 1983, Steven Seagal returned to the United States as a bodyguard for celebrities. Thanks to his mastery of martial arts, he began in cinema by choreographing fight scenes, such as for the James Bond film, Never Say Never Again (1983). Determined to shine in front of the camera, Steven produced his first film Nico in 1988, directed by Andrew Davis, in which he landed the lead role.
A real success, he signed with Warner Bros for several other films. The actor starred in The Deep Sea Trap (1992) which allowed him to achieve fame. His notable films also include Checkmate and Death (1990) and Savage Justice (1991).
This period of glory gradually came to an end in the mid-90s. In 1994, he directed Minefield which was poorly received by critics. The same was true for the sequel to The Deep Sea Trap, High-Speed Trap (1995). Despite a notable appearance in The Last Decision (1995), his acting was no longer as appealing. Steven Seagal continues to act and direct some films like Out of Bounds (2001), Mission Alcatraz (2002) or Killing Point (2008) but most of them are released directly on DVD.
He returned to cinema in 2010 with the film Machete, but preferred to devote himself to a career on the small screen. The actor was rejected for the casting of Expendables 3. In 2011, he appeared in the series True Justice and played in the film Absolution in 2015.
Steven Seagal is also a singer. During his career, he released two blues albums, Songs from the Crystal Cave in 2004 and Mojo Priest in 2006. A multi-talented actor, the actor launched his own reality TV show, Lawman, in 2009. In this show, he shows the daily life of the Jefferson police station in Louisiana, where he is a reservist member. The program ended in 2014.

Together, they have three children, Annaliza, born in 1987, Dominic, born in 1990 and Arissa, born in 1993. They separated in 1996 following Steven Seagal’s infidelities with the children’s nanny, Arissa Wolf. With Anissa, he has a daughter, named Savannah. In 2009, Steven married the professional dancer Erdenetuya Batsukh with whom he has a son.
