The fourth Bitcoin Halving Chart went smoothly in April, as expected. But when will the next Bitcoin Halving take place? The countdown shows the estimated date of the event.

After the US-approved Bitcoin Halving Chart spot ETFs from BlackRock and Co. were launched at the beginning of January 2024, the focus for a long time was on a much more important event from a fundamental perspective: the so-called Bitcoin Halving. This took place on Saturday, April 20, 2024 at 2:10 a.m. Central European Time.

Bitcoin Halving Chart– or Halvening – is an event that occurs at regular intervals and has a significant impact on the Bitcoin market. Because: Bitcoin Halving Chart (BTC) is secured by the so-called Proof of Work consensus process. This means that new Bitcoin only enters the market by providing energy in the form of computing capacity. This computing capacity is provided by the so-called Bitcoin miners. If a miner has successfully attached a block to the Bitcoin blockchain, he or she receives a reward – a so-called reward – in the form of Bitcoin. This reward is halved with each halving, resulting in fewer and fewer new Bitcoins entering circulation as time progresses.

But when is the next Bitcoin Halving Chart and how long until then exactly? The countdown counts the days, hours, minutes and seconds until the expected date of the Bitcoin Halving in 2028.

When is the next Bitcoin Halving Chart?

The next Bitcoin Halving Chart – the fifth halving since Bitcoin’s creation – will take place when the Bitcoin blockchain reaches the 1,050,000 block. After that, the block reward for BTC miners will be 1.5625 Bitcoin (BTC) per block mined until the halving in 2032.

Important: The Bitcoin Halving Chart Countdown calculates the date of the next Bitcoin Halving based on the average block time of the past year. This was 9.82 minutes per block in the period between October 2022 and October 2023.

This is an estimate: Despite the intended ten-minute block time on the Bitcoin network, it is difficult to make an exact prediction due to the randomness of Bitcoin mining and the variable hashrate. Therefore, the exact time of the next Bitcoin halving and the final time by then may still change.

Bitcoin Halving 2028: All key data for the next halving

  • Fifth halving since Bitcoin was created.
  • Block height at 1,050,000.
  • Reducing the block reward from 3.125 to 1.5625 Bitcoin per validated block.

Was ist Bitcoin Halving?

The so-called Bitcoin Halving Chart is a regular halving of the rewards in the form of Bitcoin that miners receive for providing their computing capacity. This reward is paid out in the form of Bitcoin. This reward in BTC is halved by halving, meaning the number of Bitcoin a miner receives for each block found is reduced. This so-called block reward is currently 3,125 Bitcoin per block mined and will be halved by the next halving in 2028. This means that the last Bitcoin will not be mined until around the year 2140 after the 33rd halving.

How often does Bitcoin Halving take place?

Bitcoin Halving Chart takes place at regular intervals of around four years. Specifically, this event is triggered after the creation of 210,000 new Bitcoin blocks. This BTC reward halving is hardwired into the code. Since the time required for this can vary by a few minutes, the date of the next Bitcoin halving can only be estimated.

The last Bitcoin Halving Chart was on April 20, 2024. The block reward for miners was halved from 6.25 Bitcoin (BTC) to 3.125 Bitcoin per block mined.

What does the Bitcoin Halving Chart bring? Why is it taking place?

The Bitcoin Halving Chart causes the rewards in BTC to gradually decrease, which should lead to a continuous increase in the BTC price if demand remains constant. Bitcoin was designed so that only a limited number of Bitcoins can be created, in total there are almost 21 million – to be precise, there is a maximum of 20,999,999.97690000 Bitcoins that will ever exist.

By reducing the rewards for miners, the rate at which new Bitcoin is released into the market will decrease as time goes on. The last Bitcoin will not be mined using this system until around the year 2140.

Forecast: What will happen to the Bitcoin price after the halving?

The Bitcoin Halving Chart has an impact on the demand and supply of Bitcoin. Reducing miner rewards means fewer new Bitcoins are given to the market. The tradable supply is growing less quickly due to the halving and will continue to slow down in the future. This can lead to a shortage of supply and increase the price of Bitcoin at the same time that demand increases. On the other hand, the halving and lower reward can also reduce the incentives for BTC miners, which can lead to a reduction in network activity and security – the so-called hash rate.

Important: However, precise forecasts of how the Bitcoin price will behave after the next halving in April 2024 cannot be given seriously.

How has the Bitcoin price reacted to halving in the past?

In the past, the Bitcoin price has always risen on a long-term basis after a halving. An overview:

  • The first Bitcoin Halving Chart occurred on November 28, 2012, where the reward for miners was halved from 50 BTC to 25 BTC. At the time of the halving, the Bitcoin price was $12.35. This rose to 127 dollars after 150 days and reached its peak in the phase between the first and second halving in December 2013 at around 1038 dollars.
  • The second halving took place on July 9, 2016, with a halving from 25 BTC to 12.5 BTC. At the time of the halving, the Bitcoin price was $650.63. Bitcoin reached its peak on December 17, 2017, when the price rose to around $19,700.
  • The third Bitcoin Halving took place on May 11, 2020. Here, too, the Bitcoin price increased significantly in the long term and reached its high at the time of $69,420 on November 10, 2021.

Important: The fact that the Bitcoin price will behave this way again after the halving on April 20, 2024 remains speculation. Reliable forecasts cannot be made here because the price also depends on external factors.

The Bitcoin Halving Chart can have a significant impact on miners. Since the reward per block is halved, they receive less Bitcoin for their work, which can reduce their earnings. This may result in some Bitcoin miners exiting the market while others look for new ways to operate more efficiently.

Miners must therefore become more profitable over time in order to remain competitive. Unprofitable Bitcoin miners sooner or later leave the market because they do not make any profit.

After the last Bitcoin Halving: What happens when the last Bitcoin is mined?

Once all Bitcoin is mined around 2140, there will be no more new BTC. The fixed stock of almost 21 million Bitcoin is then reached. But the Bitcoin miners will not then become superfluous. From then on, your task will be limited to validating and confirming transactions without producing any new BTC.

However, they continue to receive a reward for providing their computing capacity and the associated security of the Bitcoin network. However, this only refers to the fees for Bitcoin transactions.

Until the maximum supply of around 21 million BTC is reached, Bitcoin will go through a total of 33 halvings, during which the block reward – the reward paid to miners for a validated block – is halved each time. The last Bitcoin halving is not expected to occur until 2140.
