Paris-Saclay acquires a unique institute in the world to fight against septicemia symptoms

Paris-Saclay has just given birth to a unique institute in the world to fight septicemia, or sepsis. The latter brings together numerous partners, notably the University, the CEA, the AP-HP, Inserm and industrialists. Sepsis is the fourth leading cause of death worldwide.

275 researchers, in physics, chemistry, mathematics, engineering sciences, biology, etc. and 94 clinical doctors constitute the driving forces of the new University Hospital Institute (IHU), Prometheus of the Paris-Saclay cluster. This colossus dedicated to the fight against generalized inflammation caused by serious infections,

Also called sepsis, brings together teams from the University of Paris-Saclay, the CEA , Inserm, the AP-HP and a certain number of companies (Biomérieux, Biothelis, Pfizer, etc.). The term sepsis is broader than that of septicemia, encompassing other infectious forms, not covered by the latter.

Prometheus is today the first world center to take charge of the entire septicemia symptoms of actions carried out against generalized infections: from fundamental research to the treatment of patients, including the development of new drugs and training.

Initially endowed with forty million euros as part of France 2030, it should obtain 150 million in subsidies in the coming years. By 2030, the Institute will have a specific building; in the meantime, it is housed in temporary buildings.
