Peter Dinklage | Biography, Movies, Game of Thrones, & Facts
Born with the disease Achondroplasia giving rise to dwarfism, Peter Dinklage made his handicap his greatest asset. After taking theater classes at a university in New Jersey, the state in which he grew up, he got noticed in the cinema from his first appearance in 1995 in It’s Turning in Manhattan . He shares the poster with Steve Buscemi , Catherine Keener and Dermot Mulroney, and plays in this film within the film an actor who bitterly regrets that he is only offered caricature roles, failing to be anything other than the “dwarf of service”. A parody which is not very far from reality and which allows him to be known by the profession for his true talent, and not his appearance. Dinklage then moved on to supporting roles, mainly in comedies, such as Human Nature, the first feature film by Michel Gondry, or Elfe, a Christmas tale directed by Jon Favreau, with Will Ferrell. On television, we hear his voice in an episode of Seinfeld in 1995, and he played a drug dealer during a sequence of New York 911 .
Peter Dinklage career took off in 2003, when he became a sensation on the independent film circuit with the lead role in the bittersweet comedy The Station Manager. His character is afflicted with the exact same illness as him and suffers from the gaze of others. So much so that he chooses to embrace his solitude by isolating himself in a small, almost abandoned station, whose operation he must manage. It doesn’t take long for the unfortunate man to meet his new neighbors, played by Patricia Clarkson, Michelle Williams and Bobby Cannavale, who give him a taste for life again. The press is unanimous on both the film and the actor’s performance. Nominated for various prizes, he tours prestigious festivals. The actor then toured more and more, both for the small and big screen. Peter Dinklage played himself in a episode of Entourage 2005; and the same year became one of the heroes of the science fiction show Threshold: first contact, which was canceled after 13 episodes. For one season, he played Julia’s boyfriend ( Joely Richardson ) in Nip/Tuck. After the films Penelope, The Chronicles of Narnia: Chapter 2 – Prince Caspian and Happy Funeral , the public discovered him in the American remake of the latter, Panic at the Funeral
Peter Dinklage The actor descends from a line of noble aristocrats, the Von Dinklages. This perhaps explains the natural ease with which he takes on the armor of Tyrion Lannister, one of the heroes of the Game of Thrones saga , from 2011. George RR Martin, the author of the novels, confides of elsewhere that he was his first choice during the casting phase. This rich and complex character, intelligent and endowed with a great sense of humor acquired over the years after being treated by his family like the ugly duckling, allows him to show the full extent of his talent. Peter Dinklage won an Emmy Award and a Golden Globe in the “Best Supporting Actor in a Drama” category after the show’s triumphant first season. Cinema then reaches out to him more than ever. He provided voice in 2012 for the character of Captain Gutt in and joined the ranks of the X-Men in X-Men: Days of Future Past.
