5 Billion Euros Short: The Last Hurdle in Germany’s 2025 Budget
Berlin. An appointment is canceled and perhaps that will ease the situation – at least a little. Because of the summer holidays, the Federal Cabinet will not meet this Wednesday morning, unlike usual. So perhaps there are a few more hours left to find the last 5 billion euros for the 2025 federal Budget deadline. This should actually be done by Wednesday. The draft budget should finally be submitted to the Bundestag on Friday – without any gaps.
FDP wants to abolish ministry
The missing 5 billion euros could be achieved by strengthening the financing of the railway and motorway companies even more than the three coalition leaders had planned in July. The FDP also brought up social cuts again: the suggestion of a reduction in citizens’ money – there was a guarantee of vested rights. However, the Ministry of Labor immediately rejected

The Secretary General of Welthungerhilfe, Matthias Mogge, warned of cuts in development aid and the dissolution of the ministry. The cuts proposed so far would hit “the poorest in the affected countries the hardest,” he told the editorial network Germany (RND). “Further cuts, especially in humanitarian crises like the one currently taking place in Sudan, are deliberately and deliberately putting people’s lives at risk.” The BMZ is a “strong and successful instrument for our country’s international commitment.”
The SPD foreign politician Nils Schmid also spoke out against abolishing the BMZ. A merger with the Foreign Office “would not bring any concrete benefit,” he told the Budget deadline RND and recommended: “The FDP should now take a vacation and then return to serious government with fresh courage instead of repeatedly falling into panic in their helplessness.”
Green Party deputy group leader Andreas Audretsch was also annoyed. It is “time for the finance minister to concentrate on solutions that work for Germany,” he told the RND.
This solution would have to be approved by the cabinet on Wednesday by circulation – i.e. in writing. If this doesn’t happen, there will probably be another round of trouble.
