Damon Wayans is part of a family of internationally well-known artists. He is in fact the brother of Marlon Wayans , Keenen Ivory Wayans and Shawn Wayans.

The actor began his career in 1984 by offering bananas to Eddie Murphy in the successful police comedy Beverly Hills Cop by Martin Brest. This small, noted role earned him a recurring presence on the famous show Saturday Night Live for several years.
