Zion Williamson extends Pelicans contract: ‘I want to win championship’


TI have New Orleans Pelicans officially announced the extension of the contract with their top player: Zion Williamson. The power forward on his 22nd birthday signed a five-year, maximum, $231 million rookie extension.

Sitting next to Pelicans general manager Trajan Langdon, executive vice president of basketball operations David Griffin and coach Willie Green, WWilliamson admitted that it was the best birthday present he could have dreamed of.

“For the Pelicans to give me this birthday presentI’m not going to let them down. I’m not going to let my family down. I’m not going to let the city down. And most importantly, I’m not going to let myself down,” Williamson said at the conference.

“I want to prove that I am a winner. It is so simple. I want to win with the coach and with my teammates. The ultimate goal is to win the championship. I feel like this is what we are all striving for. Like Griff said, we’re hungry. You all saw last year what the team did and I’m happy to add to that,” he added.

Williamson missed the playoffs

Pelicans advance to NBA playoffs Zion Williamson on the team and led the top Western Conference team, the Phoenix Suns, for six games before being eliminated.

Williamson only played 85 games. since being selected first overall in the 2019 draft. However, when it was his turn to hit the court, he was unresponsive to treatment, averaging 25.7 points, seven rebounds and 3.2 assists on over 60 percent shooting from the field.
