Rafael Caro Quintero Mexican drug lord who helped create Guadalajara poster in the 80s and is held responsible for the death of a DEA Agent (DEA) agent.
Quintero has long been linked to the torture and murder of a DEA agent in 1985. Enrique “Kiki” Camarena in Guadalajara, Mexico.
DEA agent Kiki Camarena and pilot Alfredo Zavala disappeared in broad daylight in Guadalajara on February 7, 1985.
A month later, their lifeless bodies were discovered near Zamora, Michoacán.
Forensic examinations concluded that both Camarena and Zavala were tortured to death.
The arrest came just days after Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador (AMLO) and President Joe Biden met in person at the White House.
Caro Quintero, extradition
Caro Quintero is likely to receive Extradited to USAwhere Raul Lopez Alvarez serving 249 years in prison for torturing Camarena for 36 hours.
López Alvarez, a former Mexican police officer, claimed that Quintero was responsible for Camarena’s murder, before retracting that claim a few months later.
Quintero spent 28 years in a Mexican prison for murder in 1985, but was released in 2013a decision that would aggravate Mexico’s relations with the US.
The court ruled that Quintero should have been tried in state court, not federal court, and he was released after serving his sentence for drug trafficking.
