As noted term, Bezos said he liked it when showrunners patrick mackay as well as JD Payne completely ignored him Rings of Power premiere, despite providing feedback on early drafts of the script as the main Tolkien enthusiast. Simply put, Bezo’s son told him, “Don’t screw it up.”
“Every showrunner dreams of getting notes on early scripts and cuts from the executive chairman,” Bezos said. “They just love it. I want to thank you [McKay and Payne] for listening whenever it helped, but mostly I have to thank [them] for ignoring me at the right time.”
Bezos went on to praise the showrunners, adding that “one of the best decisions we made was to bet on this relatively unknown team because we saw something special.”
“My kid is a big fan of Tolkien and after Amazon got involved, he came up to me, looked me in the eyes and said, ‘Daddy, please don’t screw it up,’” Bezos said.
Luckily for Bezos, it looks like his wish will come true.
