Virgil van Dijk, defender of the Netherlands, has reminded his team that they must be organized when defending against Lionel Messi, the captain of Argentina.
Van Dijk said that Argentina’s players always look for Messi to give them the ball in order to make it difficult for their opponents.
According to him, the Netherlands must devise a precise plan to combat Messi and keep an eye on him “chillingly” while Louis van Gaal’s team attacks.
The Netherlands and Argentina will meet in the quarterfinals of the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar on Friday.
“The difficult thing about him is that when we are attacking, he is relaxing in some corner or something,” Van Dijk said in his pre-match press conference ahead of the clash.
“You have to be very sharp in terms of defensive organization. They were always looking for him to try to make it difficult for us against it”.
“It’s an honor to play against him,” added the Liverpool star. “It’s not me against him or the Netherlands against him, it’s the Netherlands against Argentina.
“No one can do it alone, we will have to come up with a good plan.”
