Barcelona, Sep 29 (EFE).- The Superior Court of Justice of Catalonia (TSJC) maintains 25% Spanish in six other educational centers, despite regulations approved by the Government and Parliament that prevent the application of percentages to the teaching of languages.

The educational centers that must continue to apply 25% Spanish in the classroom where a student’s family has requested it from the TSJC are located in Sant Pere de Ribes, Sant Esteve Sesrovires, Canet, Cubelles, Tarragona and Els Pallaresos.

In this way, the TSJC rejected the request of the Generalitat to revoke the measure of teaching 25% of subjects in Spanish as a precautionary measure.

According to the TSJC, the new legislation approved by Parliament and the government “does not automatically affect previous court resolutions” in which it had already been decided to apply 25% Spanish as a precautionary measure.

The court recognizes that the recently approved regulatory framework “influences the new linguistic projects that are carried out in each center”, but that in the meantime applying 25% of teaching in Spanish “is not incompatible with the new regulatory framework” .

In addition, the TSJC expressed doubts about the constitutionality of the new regulations approved by the government and parliament since “the individual right to receive an education in Spanish has a constitutional basis and is provided for in the fundamental legislation of the State” despite the fact that the new legislation “does not define Spanish as a vehicular language”.

The six schools join two others in which in September the TSJC also agreed to maintain 25% of lessons in Spanish given that the measure was applied as a preventive measure by court order and despite the fact that the Generalitat had requested that it be revoked after the approval of the new language law.

The Association for a Bilingual School welcomed the new decision of the TSJC and ironically expressed on its twitter account that “Mr. Cambray – Minister of Education – will comment on it enthusiastically with the directors” of the 27 educational centers in which the rooms class must teach 25% Spanish at the request of certain families of students, whom “he called back to talk about the subject”.
