Today’s children will experience seven times more heat waves than their grandparents

Children born in the past year will experience an average of seven times more heat waves over their lifetimes than their grandparents, if global warming continues at its current rate, according to a study released Monday by Save the Children in the magazine “Science”.

The study, in collaboration with an international team of climate researchers led by the Vrije Universiteit Brussel, reveals that newborns around the world will experience on average 2.6 times more droughts, 2.8 times more floods , almost three times as many crop failures and twice as many forest fires as people born 60 years ago.
