We reported the Toyota GR Corolla leak yesterday, and as expected, the specs we reported match.

The 1.6-liter three-cylinder makes 300 horsepower and 273 lb-ft of torque, and all-wheel drive is indeed customizable.

Other details include a wide peak torque range – from 3,000 to 5,500 rpm. Maximum power reaches 6,500 rpm. Toyota says the car has triple exhausts, but we don’t know if it’s an actual triple exhaust. Update: Toyota says yes.

The rev-matched six-speed we mentioned earlier will be the only transmission available. No car for you!

The GR Corolla will be built at Toyota’s Motomachi plant and on the GA-C platform.

There will be two versions available: core and circuit, and this is only the first year. The Core will be available in three colors later this year: white, black or red. The roof is color-keyed, but the rear spoiler is black. Seat with GR logo.

The circuit version of the car will be available in red, white or grey, adding a carbon-fiber roof, a vented hood with bulge, a rear spoiler, suede sports seats with red accents and an autographed shift knob.

Both cars feature a new touchscreen infotainment system.

Other available features announced yesterday include Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tyres (235mm wide), Torsen front and rear limited slip differentials, three drive modes (Normal, Sport and Track), functional exterior for aerodynamics and cooling Air vents, gauges that differentiate it from a “regular” Corolla, LED headlights and daytime running lights, gloss black grille with integrated LED fog lights, and matte black 18-inch wheels.

Available interior features include a pull-on parking brake lever (praise heaven), automatic climate control, heated seats, a heated steering wheel, navigation, wireless phone charging, an auxiliary port and two USB ports.

Toyota’s Safety Sense 3.0 suite of advanced driver assistance systems is standard and includes pre-collision with pedestrian detection, lane departure warning with steering assist, and dynamic radar cruise control. Other driver assistance systems include blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert and hill-start assist.

Toyota claims that adding more frame welds increases structural rigidity. The front suspension is a MacPherson strut, while the rear is a multi-link double wishbone setup.

The brakes have four-piston calipers at the front and two-piston calipers at the rear, and the circuit car has red calipers.

Toyota has taken steps to reduce weight. Not only in terms of the available carbon fiber roof – the door panels are aluminum, as is the hood.

We’re intrigued — Toyota has been working hard lately to beef up its performance offerings. We don’t know pricing yet, but if Toyota prices the car correctly, Volkswagen and Hyundai will head up. The same goes for suppliers of popular compact sports sedans.

It’s been a fun time for fans of small hop-on hop-off cars. Now, if only Mazda could bring back the Mazdaspeed 3.
