This is CNN: Ex-CIA Wonk Explains the Dangers of Free Speech

New to PJ Media:

What do leftists, those staunch defenders of “our democracy,” really think about our constitutional liberties? We got a provocative look at that question on CNN Friday, when former CIA analyst and current CNN intelligence and security analyst Robert Baer explained to the softies who still take CNN seriously how dangerous it is that Elon Musk is starting to restore free speech on Twitter.

Have you guessed it yet? Baer explained that rolling back the usefulness of Twitter as a propaganda tool for the leftist establishment and allowing dissenting voices to be heard once again is just playing into the hands of the archenemy of all that is decent and good, Vladimir Putin. Now you understand? If the left loses its hegemony over American public discourse, Ukrainians will die. That is what passes for analysis today on CNN, and apparently also at the CIA; was CNN’s quintessential news feature.

There’s no denying that Robert Baer is heroic: he managed through thick and thin to keep a straight face when he declared: “Putin is going to be all over Twitter if there are no regulations on this, fake accounts, fake accounts, the rest. This is a great opportunity for him. So when he talks about the popular voice, Musk, he’s really talking about Russian intelligence. Um, you know, the Russians are waiting for something like this. They need a propaganda campaign against the United States and against our support for Ukraine, and they will be all over Twitter. I guarantee you this. Supporting the far right, plans, demands to stop arming Ukraine. Just wait.

Imagine if Putin suddenly disappeared: the left would be completely lost. Who could they blame for everything then? (Oh yeah: Trump.)

Baer explained how difficult it is to distinguish the truth from “misinformation”:

Well, that’s why the pre-Musk Twitter had 7,000 people going through these accounts. You can select them with algorithms, you can select them by looking at them, you can check IP and everything else. And you just block them. And it’s, it’s, it’s not right. And you know, this free speech is silly because you can’t go to a movie theater and yell ‘fire’. It is against the law. And what Putin and the Russians are going to do is use this as a vehicle to save themselves in the Ukraine. And, you know, whether or not it will work, I don’t know, but we’ll see, as soon as these restrictions are removed, we’ll see the Russians everywhere, like I just said.

In effect, Baer was saying that 7,000 watchdogs guarding against so-called “disinformation,” all of whom share the same point of view on virtually every major political and cultural issue, was more than the 330 million watchdogs who should be strong enough. respected enough to enable them to distinguish truth from falsehood.

There is more. Read the rest here.
