After the incident Ronaldo posted an apology on Instagram for his actions before inviting a fan to watch United home game.
“I would like to invite this fan to watch the game at Old Trafford as a sign of fair play and sportsmanship,” he wrote.
However, this invitation was rejected by the boy’s mother. Sara Kellywho explained the reason for this during an interview with the Liverpool Echo.
“United handled it terribly and, to be honest, it got worse,” she said.
“I understand that if someone attacked him on the street and then invited us to dinner, we would not have done it.
“Just because he Cristiano Ronaldowhy should we do this? It’s like we owe him a debt, but sorry, we’re not.”
Sara Kelly further added that it was her son’s decision.
“We graciously declined the offer to go to United as Jake does not want to go there and does not want to see Ronaldo. He made that clear,” she said.
“These are not my words, these are the words of my son. After all, that’s what it’s all about.
“It affected him more than me, so I offered him everything so that he himself made a decision – he does not want to go to Unitedhe doesn’t want to go look Ronaldo.
