Tuein the middle San Diego Comic Con International today and AMC just announced new plans for The Walking Dead franchise, first and foremost Andrew Lincoln and Danai Gurira will continue the saga of their great characters Rick and Michonne.
It will start with six episodes in 2023.
The official description of the series begins with the words: “This series is an epic love story of two characters, changed by a changing world separated by distance. Irresistible force. Ghosts of who they were. Rick and Michonne are thrown into another world. built on a war against the dead… And, ultimately, a war against the living. Will they be able to find each other and who they were in a place and situation unlike anything they’ve ever known before? Are they enemies? Lovers? Victims of the “Winners” without each other, are they even alive – or will they discover that they are also the walking dead?
This leaves the door open for more episodes.
The last time we saw Rick Grimes, he sacrificed himself for the greater good of the group, eventually blowing up the bridge that should have been built in the first place. After this epic scene, he was nowhere to be found until we received a teaser in which he was rescued and flown away in a helicopter.
It was an extraordinary journey for Andrew Lincoln.
“It’s been the most extraordinary journey as Rick Grimes for the better part of a decade,” said Andrew Lincoln, who plays Rick. “The friendships I’ve made along the way are deep and enduring, so it’s only fitting that I can finally wrap up the story with Danai, Scott, and the rest of the TWD family. I’m so excited to be back on screen as Rika reunited with Danai as Michonne and bringing fans an epic love story to add to The Walking Dead universe.
