The historic center of Vannes in Morbihan is ideal for strolling and admiring the half-timbered houses.

Find Brittany Last summer, I learned about Alsace— my adopted region – No exclusivity in the case of half-timbered houses. The half-timbered buildings of western France attracted me with their authentic character. Usually not as glittery as those in Alsatian villages, they have a crazy reputation. My Favorites: The ones from Rennes and Dinan!

But when I tell you about my reverse trip, we stop at Vannes first, my last stop before returning…

Postcards from Vannes

In Vannes, the fortified capital of Morbihan, I marveled at its gorgeous half-timbered houses! Some have stood the test of time since the 15th century.arrive Lice Square, where the medieval tournament took place, they rubbed shoulders with private mansions.we pass ahead cathedral Admire the exterior walls and details.Medieval gates and picturesque alleys St. Patten Set the tone, like a medieval gate. I like the quiet prestige of the narrow streets of Vannes, dotted with small shops. But I didn’t have time to look at its gardens and its harbour, and I told myself in a corner of my mind that I’d be back there one day…

sausage pie on the road

Also in the center of Vannes, we were hungry after running thousands of steps behind Karnak Standing Stone (30 minutes drive from there, click for blog post) We finally got something to eat.

For our last meal in Brittany, we were tempted by…sausage burritos! It seems like a symbol, as it’s a classic treat on stadium game nights. After posting my photo on Instagram, I received many messages from Bretons: each one told me what it took to be a “real sausage pancake.” One of you told me that really no sauce, butter and pepper is enough to make it a treat.sausage patties even have his song: “Galette-saucisse I love you”. These Bretons are crazy!

How about sausage patties? Well, that’s exactly what you’d imagine! Our sausages are prepared with good sausages from a local butcher.

For dessert, I fell in love with Maison Larnicol kouignette®, a mini kouign amann apple and salted caramel flavor that was too gooey and sweet for me – but too bad I don’t regret it at all!

My road trip in Brittany continues!
