TI have UK National Physical Laboratory there are new measurements that show that Earth is spinning faster than before, making our days a little shorter.
The data was confirmed when scientists measured Earth rotation speed and compared it with what it was 50 years ago.
The shortest day on Earth and its consequences
On the June 29, 2022, Earth there was a full rotation 1.59 milliseconds less than the 24 hour mark and this made the day the shortest ever recorded.
Now scientists are warning that this could lead to the introduction of the first ever negative leap second.
They think that if the rotation continues to accelerate, we will have to remove one second from our atomic clocks.
This may create problems for Information technology systems since their clocks would also have to skip one second, and because of their timer reliability, this was the start of devastating news.
They attribute this phenomenon to something called the Chandler wobble.
Leonid Zotov, Christian Bizoir as well as Nikolai Sidorenkov scientists claim that this is an irregular rotation Earth are the result of the Chandler Wobble, the uneven movement of the planet’s geographic poles across the surface of the globe.
Zotov assures that Chandler Wobble amplitude was about three to four meters per Earth surface, but he disappeared from from 2017 to 2020.
Other experts believe that the melting and refreshing of the world’s highest mountain peaks could help speed up the rotation.
