Bastian Schweinsteiger expressed his dissatisfaction with the way he was treated Jose Mourinho in the second season of his two-year stint in Manchester United.
The former Germany international was strangely frozen by the Portuguese coach after returning from the 2016 European Championship.
“It was very strange. On my birthday, I came to the locker room, I wanted to change, but then someone told me that I was not allowed in, and I had to change in the locker room and had to play with the second team, ” Schweinsteiger said Manchester Unitedofficial podcast when asked about how his time at the club came to an end.
“I was in a lot of pain because no one was talking to me. Mourinho about it and he explained something to me that I really didn’t understand and it was related to the second injury I had.
“I got my first injury a season before I was treated in the medical department United and then in an easy workout I got the same injury so I asked Louis van Gaal if I could be treated in Germany, because we have Euro 2016 ahead of us and this has always been agreed.
“So I did it, I was in shape, I played at the Euros, I was looking forward to coming to United to play with Mourinhowho twice actually wanted to buy me for Inter in 2010 and then in [Real] Madrid.”
Mourinho’s apology
Schweinsteiger went on to reveal that Mourinho admitted his mistake and apologized to the winner of the 2014 World Cup for not giving him the opportunity to Red Devils.
“Of course, I respected him a lot, but I didn’t understand the situation, why I wasn’t allowed to train to play with the first team,” Bayern Munich legend added.
“There were different opinions that I am a professional, which is not true, because I am a professional. I showed it later, I always trained with children or alone.
“Mourinho I apologized and said that I had made a mistake, which of course was nice, but I lost my heart and fell in love with the club a little, and not the fans, not the players, not the people who live in Manchester, it was not easy.
“If I want to do something, I want to do it with full heart and energy. [the club].”
Schweinsteiger played a total of 35 matches for Manchester Unitedin which he scored two goals and provided three assists.
