Russian President Vladimir Putin signed two decrees on Thursday recognizing the independence of Ukraine’s Zaporozhye and Kherson regions, according to a statement published Friday on the Russian legal information portal.
The legal text argues that the decision was made “taking into account the ‘will of the people’ and in accordance with the principles and norms of international lawas well as the recognition and confirmation of the principles of equal rights and self-determination of peoples enshrined in the Charter of the United Nations”.
The decree takes effect on the date of its signature, and The official ceremony will take place on Friday, September 30th at 3:00 pm. At the Kremlin (local time), according to Interfax news agency.
