DC fans have had a busy week with the reveal that Wonder Woman 3 is not moving forward in its current form, plus a host of other potential DC movie updates. Now, the envelope reports that the current state of WW3 is not so straightforward.
Rather than the film being unceremoniously cancelled, director and co-writer Patty Jenkins was reported to have left the project after falling out with the studio. According to one of The Wrap’s sources, Jenkins was not interested in changing her pitch for the film, and Warner Bros. Film Group co-chairmen and CEOs Michael De Luca and Pamela Abdy “didn’t get it, didn’t understand it.” understood”. the character, I didn’t understand the character arcs, and I didn’t understand what Jenkins was trying to do.” Jenkins reportedly sent De Luca an email that included a link to the Wikipedia page for the “character arc “.
Following the news earlier this week that the project was apparently dead, DC Studios co-CEO James Gunn took to Twitter to elaborate on the “conflicting environment” and the “inevitable transition period as we move forward to tell a cohesive story across film, television, animation and games”.
The Wrap also notes that Wonder Woman 3 was reportedly at one point on a list of projects “no one was going to mess with” as DC Studios shifts gears to creating a shared universe. Gunn and his other co-CEO, Peter Safran, were reportedly not involved in the Wonder Woman 3 decision, or how it was previously handled.
In 2020, Wonder Woman 3 picked up speed quickly after the franchise’s impressive box office for WW84, at the time, the highest box office since the start of the pandemic.
