Netizens React To Plagiarism Accusations Against NU Pep Squad
NATIONAL UNIVERSITY (NU) PEP SQUAD – The champion of the UAAP 2022 Cheerdance competition has been accused of plagiarizing a dance routine.
NU Pep Squad bested the other acting schools in the UAAP Cheerleading Competition on Saturday at the Mall of Asia Arena. The Bulldogs, who were decked out in bold shades of pink, blue and yellow, battled to win their sixth UAAP CDC championship in nine seasons by performing feats during a performance known as “Cheerobics.”
To retain their 2019 title, the NU PEP Squad defeated the Far Eastern University Cheering Squad, who had won the competition last May. The Bulldogs scored a total of 723 points, FEU 719 and UST 640.
With a routine by Francis M, the FEU Cheerleading Squad settled for silver, while the UST Salinggawi Dance Company finally took the podium by taking bronze with a dance by Lady Gaga. With their P-pop performance, UE Pep Squad ranked number four, followed by Adamson Pep Squad in fifth place and the track “Reinvention.”
On the other hand, UP Pep Squad secured sixth place followed by DLSU Animo Squad in seventh place and Ateneo in last place again.
After all, it wasn’t an easy win for the NU Pep Squad. After their winning performance, netizens accused the group of plagiarizing a dance routine.
This led other netizens to defend the group. According to them, there is no plagiarism in the dance routine of the winning team. Here is the reaction of some netizens recovered by Fashion Pulis:
