Aloy Ejimakor, Nnamdi Kanu’s special counsel, has written to the European Union in Nigeria asking for its urgent intervention in a bid to persuade the Nigerian Government to release his client so he can get medical attention.
Later dated November 15 and posted on his Twitter page, the lawyer appealed to the EU to compel the FG to comply with court/tribunal decisions by granting Kanu his right to independent medical treatment. -care.
The lawyer, who attached copies of Kanu’s medical report to the letter, said he was alarmed by the deteriorating health condition of his client due to the detention conditions he was subjected to.
Immediate intervention: He also appealed to the EU to persuade the FG to stop further criminal prosecution against Mr Kanu and others. He said:
- “We are the lawyers of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu on whose behalf and instruction we hereby respectfully request for the urgent intervention of the Delegation of the European Union to urge the Government of Nigeria to immediately implement the opinion of the United Nations Working Group on Arbitrary Detention and the appropriate judgment. in the Federal High Court of Nigeria (Umuahia) regarding the matter of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, who is currently being held by the GON in solitary confinement.
- “Your Excellency our decision to place this matter before the EU Mission in Nigeria (and by extension, your home governments) is motivated by the EU’s stellar human rights record and the supranational diplomatic influence it brings of the EU or the Mission of the Nigerian Government and persuade it to do the right thing.
- “We are also alarmed by the deteriorating state of health of Mr Kanu, which has been exacerbated by the inhumane conditions of detention he has been subjected to, including his solitary confinement since June 27, 2021.”
