Hathflix squid game made history as the series that broke viewing records last year and the just-released teaser for the second season. Writer, creator and director of the series Hwang Dong Hyuk posted a message on Twitter promising the return of familiar characters such as Gi Hoon, the enigmatic Frontman, “the man in the ddakji suit may return” and more.
Fans are already hungry for more information about the second season.
“Last year, it took 12 years to bring the first season of Squid Game to life. But it took 12 days for The Squid Game to become the highest rated Netflix series ever,” Hwang writes. “As a writer, director and producer of Squid Game, many thanks to fans around the world. Thank you for watching and loving our show…Join us once again for a brand new round.”
The series was a worldwide success.
Mysterious, action-packed, suspenseful yet thrilling, and much more can be said for a series that showed a dystopian future or even reality, who knows.
The series was well received all over the world and broke viewing records, people binge watching the show because of the engagement the viewers felt.
It was also political and social criticism.
The series follows protagonist Gi-Hoon, an avid gambler with nothing to lose, who enters the game to pay off his debts, reunite with his estranged daughter, and secure a better life for his mother.
At some point, this is reminiscent of the reality that many South Koreans live in, there have been movements due to excessive inflation and debt that they have had to endure, and people are overworked and underpaid.
