Nollywood actress Ini Edo has revealed what she says to people who describe the popular movie Shanty Twon as “nonsense and no lesson.”

The popular Nigerian Netflix series Shanty Town has been trending for days after the movie premiered on Netflix a few days ago. While some people have praised the producers and cast for executing their roles to perfection, others have criticized the film’s importance.

Ini Edo, a producer of the film, has revealed how the script was written and some lessons that can be drawn from the film. Revealing his inspiration for the script and film, Ini Edo stated that he was inspired to tell Nollywood stories, Nigerian stories, the way he thought they should be told.

Speaking about his response to people who described the movie as a movie without any lessons, Ini Edo stated;

Why this script? Why this script is just that we realized that there is a need to tell this story.

It was something that happened in society that nobody talked about. About women, the slave trade, and the kind of business that goes on behind the scenes. Prostitution is really big all over the world. But so the people in authority are thriving with this industry. One of the things we needed to bring to light.

The fact that women had a lot to do with women and children. And how much more should they be protected and what they are really going through. And the fact that there is a part of this world that some of us never get to experience. But it’s actually happening. So I needed people who are sitting there and probably don’t realize that some things like this are happening in our society to know that we need to fix it.”
