The story of Koyomi Araragi, a third-year high school student who almost completely regained his humanity after briefly remodeling into a vampire during spring break, is based on the setting of the Monogatari sequence. Sooner or later, his friend Hitagi Senjgahara, known for keeping to herself, falls down the college stairs and lands in Koyomi’s arms. To his amazement, he learns that Hitagi weighs almost nothing, which goes against the legal guidelines of physics. Despite being warned to stay away, Koyomi provides his help and introduces her to Meme Oshino, a peculiar middle-aged man living in a now-defunct piss-off school who is responsible for turning Koyomi back into a human. Meme Oshino was the one who helped Koyomi heal his vampirism. After helping Hitagi find answers to his state of affairs, Koyomi decides to turn into his girlfriend.
As the story continues, Koyomi becomes interested in various women who suffer from “queerness” (kai, literally “weirdness”), along with a small child named Mayoi Hachikuji, his classmate Suruga Kanbaru, Nadeko Sengoku, a friend his sisters, Tsubasa Hanekawa, his classmate, and his personal young sisters Karen and Tsukihi. Since Nisio Isin’s earlier work, the Zaregoto sequence, was revealed as a light novel, he decided to create Monogatari’s main story, “Hitagi Crab”, with an extremely harsh tone of thought.
It wasn’t an easy transition from mellow books to extremely extreme writing; instead, it was an experiment to see if he could create a light novel that did not have illustrations. Nevertheless, by the time they got to the third story in the sequence, “The Suruga Monkey”, it was decided that the illustrations could be included in the publication, so he modified his technique to accommodate this. Based on what he mentioned, Nisemonogatari’s environment was completely different from Kizumonogatari’s as he was aware that later work could be turned into an anime.
Watch Monogatari movies and short films
Almost all anime movies shouldn’t have much of an impact on the overarching story, and a few are usually not even considered canon and can be completely ignored. These films further characterize Koyomi’s appearances before he became a vampire.
Only the last two episodes of Koyomimonogatari shorts are mandatory to know what happens in the story. Regardless, the rest is fun and contributes little or no contribution.
