Mikael Silvestre – I’m worried about the Arsenal player

Mikael Silvestre, a former Arsenal defender, has stated that he is “afraid” that William Saliba will not play for France at the ongoing 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.

France have already qualified for the World Cup round of 16 ahead of their final Group D game against Tunisia on Wednesday night.

Meanwhile, Saliba has not been able to play a single minute in Qatar, with France boss Didier Deschamps preferring Raphael Varane and Dayot Upamecano ahead of Saliba.

“I would think that [Raphael] Varane would follow [against Tunisia] and I fear for Saliba that [Dayot] Upamecano will also continue”, Silvestre told Bettingexpert.

“The pair did well against Denmark and they need to work more together to get used to each other.

“Unless France start playing with three back, which could be an option for the next round, but I doubt it.

“So, in central defense, I don’t expect any change. That’s not where you run anymore so I guess [Varane and Upamecano] you can play two or three games in a row. So it would make sense for them to start against Tunisia.”
