Mexico City, Nov 16 (EFE).- The eighth edition of the Smart City Expo LATAM congress, the most important congress on smart cities in Latin America, will be held in May 2023 in Mérida, in the state of Yucatán, at the east of Mexico.
The announcement was made this Wednesday during the Smart City Expo World Congress Barcelona, where Ricard Zapatero, general manager of Fira Barcelona International; Manuel Redondo, president of Fira Barcelona Mexico; Mauricio Vila, governor of the Mexican state of Yucatán, and Sergio Edgar Baños Rubio, mayor of Mexican Pachuca, Hidalgo.
Vila and Redondo explained the importance of holding meetings between companies, governments, the media, institutions and active society in general in order to share experiences, knowledge, actions and good practices, for the benefit of development. digital and sustainable Latin American cities.
The Smart City Expo LATAM congress, they explained in a statement, is the main event for cities and territories “which seeks to give visibility to the technological and innovative actions that drive the transformation of the Latin American region in order to create better opportunities for all its inhabitants.
In its 2023 edition, the participation of more than 10,000 accredited members in person, the representation of 300 cities from 45 countries, more than 200 institutions and companies, 300 speakers and more than 55 media is expected.
In addition, two “co-located” events will take place in parallel.
Firstly, the “Tomorrow Mobility”, with conferences and an exhibition of solutions and the vanguard of the mobility and transport sector, and secondly the Smart Fest, a festival that aims to “involve the society active in solving the challenges that our cities face through technology and innovation to have better living environments”.
The eighth edition will mainly seek to promote the viability of high-impact projects, in terms of technology and innovation, and to make them possible through more effective financing models that enable the evolution towards more sustainable, inclusive and digital in Latin America.
Likewise, to give continuity to the meeting of agents of urban transformation, the Smart Latam Alliance will be present, a collaboration platform, an initiative of Fira Barcelona México and promoted by UN Habitat, to promote projects that respond to global situations and move towards more sustainable cities.
