- Like other “55 Edition” models, the outgoing CLA45 Edition 55 relies heavily on visual updates (and some aerodynamic tweaks) to offer a slightly different-looking CLA45 to a handful of buyers in the United States. Only 55 units were sold here.
- Most of the updates are visual, mostly the Cosmos Black Metallic paint scheme and plenty of Edition 55 red/black trim on the exterior and interior. Plus, it comes with a free interior cover to protect your new AMG when it’s stationary.
- Pricing has not been announced, but the 55th Edition upgrade for the new CLA45 in Europe will cost around $13,000 to $15,000.
To celebrate AMG’s 55th anniversary, Mercedes-AMG has released a limited-edition 2022 Mercedes-AMG CLA45 four-door coupe called the 55 Edition, which offers a number of aerodynamic and visual enhancements. The 55 Edition will be produced in a limited number of 55 units in the U.S. and will go on sale later this year as a 2023 model.
AMG fans won’t want to miss the upgrades Mercedes made to the CLA45 Edition 55. All versions will get the AMG aerodynamics package as standard. While the CLA45 Edition 55 is available in Digital White Metallic in select markets, the U.S. will only get the car in Cosmos Black Metallic. There will be plenty of gloss black trim around the car to match the new exterior updates.
Let’s start with the AMG Aerodynamics Package, the only update to the 55 Edition that has a noticeable effect on how the car moves through the air. The aerodynamic package adds a front apron with a larger front splitter, an AMG rear spoiler, new spoiler elements on the rear apron simulating the side air outlets and a diffuser blade. Mercedes says the new vent shapes improve the car’s handling characteristics at high speeds, but even at standstill they offer a glossy black tone that matches the many visual changes.
The listing includes an AMG Night package and an AMG Night II package that provide a gloss black finish to the front splitter and trim elements such as AMG side sill panel inserts, window trim and mirror cap exteriors. Black chrome can be found on the tailpipes and grille shutters, while other AMG emblems on the sides of the vehicle are available in various greys or to clearly match wherever. The CLA45 Edition 55 rides on 19-inch AMG cross-spoke forged wheels in matte grey and, surprisingly, another “Edition 55” design element.
The interior features themed black and red from the Edition 55 series. The CLA45 Edition 55 features red luminous lettering in red and black two-tone nappa leather on the door sill panels, red and black floor mats and covered AMG Performance seats. An individual AMG interior cover is also part of the offer.
The global Mercedes-AMG anniversary celebration also gave the world, namely the different markets, Edition 55 versions of the A35, A45, CLA35 and G63. Announced in the US in March (55 units only), the 2022 Mercedes-AMG G63 Edition 55 features a unique exterior and red and black interior with numerous “55” references.
Mercedes hasn’t announced pricing for the CLA45 Edition 55 in the U.S., but we can speculate about the approximate cost premium based on the special model that will go on sale in Germany. There, the 55 versions of the CLA45 4Matic and CLA45 S 4Matic cost between $13,100 and $14,870 extra, depending on the powertrain.
