Manchester United are reportedly planning a January roundup for Sassuolo star Davide Frattesi, who is also on Tottenham and West Ham’s transfer radars.
The 23-year-old Italian international is rated as one of the best midfielders in Serie A, having enjoyed excellent form with Sassuolo. He took his time establishing himself in the Serie A side, having enjoyed a string of loans elsewhere. Now a regular in Alessio Dionisi’s squad, he enjoyed an excellent breakthrough season last time out, scoring four goals and adding three assists.
And this season he has two goals in eight appearances to his name with Sassuolo firmly entrenched in mid-table.
That form saw Sassuolo reward him with a new contract, tying him to the club until 2026.
However, they know that interest in him is building with a number of big clubs keeping an eye on his services.
In fact, it is strongly reported that Inter Milan are plotting a bid for Frattesi in January. However, Tottenham are also reportedly hot on his trail, with Antonio Conte and Fabio Paratici being big fans.
West Ham are also being linked with his signing. And Brighton, under new boss Roberto De Zerbi, is also keen to rejoin his old boss.
Sassuolo is understandably keen to ensure he can retain the services of his star man.
But il Gazzetta dello Sport suggests they might be tempted to cash in if presented with an offer in the region of £26.3m (€30m).
The Italian newspaper also claims that Erik ten Hag is interested in bringing Fratessi to Old Trafford.
The United manager reportedly sent scouts to see him in action during Sassuolo’s 5-0 win over Salernitana last week.
Interest grows in Davide Fratessi
Fratessi’s form for Sassuolo has also seen him make four appearances for Roberto Mancini’s Italy side.
And although he has yet to score for the Azzurri, Fratessi has turned heads with his displays of action. In fact, his movement and his eye for goal will probably ensure that he will remain a mainstay for many years to come.
In fact, his style of play has been compared to that of Dele Alli during the early days of his time at Tottenham.
According to Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio, José Mourinho is also interested in bringing the midfielder back to Roma.
Fratessi began his career with the Italian giants, although they allowed him to leave without making an outright appearance. However, they retain a sell-out clause on Fratessi, meaning they could effectively sign him for a reduced fee.
Mourinho has already shown his drawing power by signing Paulo Dybala and Tammy Abraham in recent windows.
And Fratessi’s capture would be seen as a real coup given the level of clubs that are after him.
However, they would not be able to compete with United if Ten Hag’s side went any further with a firm proposition.
The Red Devils spent more than £200m this summer, but Ten Hag will be awarded more money in the January window.
And he is still willing to strengthen his midfield despite the capture of Casemiro. Ten Hag is reportedly still interested in Frenkie de Jong, although Fratessi may be considered a more affordable option.
