Logroño, (EFE).- The Ministry of Industry, Trade and Tourism has granted the City Council of Logroño 3.9 million euros to strengthen the competitiveness of local commerce in the city in San Antón Street and the historic city center.
In a note, the town hall of Logroño clarified this Sunday that these grants, granted on a provisional basis, belong to the second call for aid from the European fund Next Generation EU for commercial activity.
The first project, focused on the improvement and modernization of the commercial area of San Antón Street, will benefit from a European grant of 2 million euros to help boost commercial activity in tourist areas.
The initial approach includes, among other actions, the redistribution of public space through redevelopment with a single platform, the widening of sidewalks, residential spaces and bioclimatic criteria.
The improvement of street furniture for sustainable alternatives and ornamentation is also planned; the creation of logistics areas for delivery and distribution; or creating shopping routes between shopping areas through apps and location nodes.
Analysis and dialogue with local groups
As the mayor of Logroño, Pablo Hermoso de Mendoza, has already indicated in a meeting held on November 23 with merchants, hoteliers and residents of San Antón, the project will be submitted for review, analysis and dialogue with the groups concerned before making a decision. final decision.
In any case, the works could not start in January, because it is necessary to complete the project and start its tendering and awarding process.
Improvement of local shops in the historic center
The second project, focused on the technological modernization of the historic center through artificial intelligence at the service of commerce, benefits from a provisional grant of 1.9 million euros in aid to support markets, urban commercial areas, non-sedentary trade and marketing channels.
This project concerns the control of vehicle access to the historic center, with the installation of a vehicle identification system made up of 26 cameras and the corresponding visualization software.
Another measure is the improvement of citizen security through the installation of 50 security cameras at strategic points; controlling the flow of tourists and pedestrians through image analysis; and carrying out diagnoses on possible improvements in the redevelopment of street furniture.
It also provides for the development of a strategic warehouse located on the ground floor of the San Blas market, where it will centralize the receipt of goods to reduce vehicle traffic in the rest of the area of operation, and the last – delivery by the kilometer with autonomous vehicles. .
This initiative includes segmented advertising to increase awareness of the market among its potential customers and the companies and products that are part of it; and digital skills training for traders.
These two projects are designed to jointly promote the competitiveness and modernization of the commercial sector through aid lines made available by the Spanish Government’s Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan (PRTR).
From the hand of the PRTR and the European funds Next Generation EU, Logroño had received to date more than 20 million euros to support different municipal projects in the field of sustainable mobility, commerce, digital and green transformation aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals (ODS) and the Spanish Urban Agenda 2030.
