Madrid, September 30 (EFE).- Equaled the 553 games with Atlético de Madrid by Adelardo Rodríguez in the last derby against Real Madrid, Koke Resurrection will be starting this Saturday, when he plays the duel against Sevilla, the footballer with the most games in the history of the club at 30, after “a lot of work and a lot of sacrifices” and with the idea “always” of retiring in the rojiblanco team.

“It’s a pride to be able to reach this number and I hope there will be many more,” he said in an interview with ‘Dazn’ seeing his 554th game this Saturday, thirteen years after making his first-team debut for the club of his life on September 19, 2009 in a 5-2 loss to Barcelona at the Camp Nou. He made his debut under the guidance of Abel Resino, then coach of the rojiblanco team. Koke was 17 years old.

“One of the best things I had was working, always wanting Atleti to be at the top and fighting for it (…). If he was out we wouldn’t be talking about the record, but in the end my idea was always to put Atlético de Madrid on top and we fought for that,” added Koke.

“My idea has always been to retire here, but we will see what happens after my contract ends (…). I know I have two years left on my contract, this one and another. My idea is to continue here. I don’t know what will happen and what has to come is welcome,” explains the current captain of Atlético, who has played 516 of his 553 games with the team in his life with Diego Simeone as coach.

“The ‘gentleman’ of the first day gave me confidence. I didn’t play much, I didn’t have many minutes, I was young and I asked him what he wanted from me. And he told me that he was going to be a very important player at the club, that he had patience. I believed in him, he believed in me and then responded on the pitch. These are not just words”, he recalled in an interview with ‘Dazn’, before becoming this Saturday the player with the most games in 119 years in the history of Atlético de Madrid.
