Nigeria’s leading engineering construction company, Julius Berger Nigeria Plc, creditably hailed as the country’s most trusted partner for building and infrastructure construction services, has been awarded again “…the most trusted construction company in Nigeria”. This was the emphatic statement of the former Governor of Edo State, His Excellency, Comrade Adams Oshiomole, who was also Chairman of the country’s ruling party, the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Adams Oshiomole made the statement in Port Harcourt, the capital of Rivers State, where Julius Berger’s technical firm of excellence and engineering brilliance eloquently tell the rich story of the company’s unrivaled operational strength, contractual commitment, the progressive loyalty to surpass its own leading reliability records as the nation’s choice contractor for the construction of sustainable buildings and infrastructure. The former Edo State Governor made the remarks when, as the special guest of honor of the Rivers State government, he commissioned the eight flyovers built by Julius Berger in the Rivers State capital, the Rumuepirikom Skybridge at Rumuepirikom Roundabout in Obio-Akpor Local Government Area of the State of Los Ríos.
At the ceremony, Rivers State Executive Governor, Chief Nyesom Ezenwo Wike, FRAUD, celebrated and thanked Julius Berger for his committed professional partnership with the state government for the development of critically needed infrastructure in the state for the beneficial use of the people of Rivers and indeed Nigerians.
Speaking at the event in Port Harcourt, Julius Berger Nigeria Plc Managing Director, Eng. Dr. Lars Richter said the contract for the construction of the Rumuepirikom flyover was awarded to the company on 6the May 2021 with an execution period of twelve months. The project, Richter emphasized, was completed as contracted even when accomplished with ‘good quality.’ Richter thanked the community that he had to endure “enormous drawbacks” during the construction period. She praised the community for their peaceful and very kind cooperation while the construction work lasted. Most significantly, the Managing Director singled out Governor Wike especially for his constant moral and financial support to the company during the construction of the flyover, which led to the successful execution of the project.
Comrade Oshiomole, later in reference to comments by CEO Julius Berger for which Eng. Dr. Lars Richter praised and thanked Governor Wike for his moral and financial support to the company for the success of the project, made it the large audience roared with meaningful laughter when with a good-natured chuckle he stated that “To achieve this kind of excellent and qualitative infrastructure that is visible in Port Harcourt for all to see, Julius Berger does not need moral support… Just pay them their money and they do the job with excellent results; continue to be unmatched in terms of contractual performance, engineering competence and technical quality”. Oshiomole also praised and congratulated the Rivers State Government for its wisdom and prudence in endorsing Julius Berger’s proven, enduring quality and impeccable engineering standards in carrying out serious infrastructure works in the state.
Earlier, during the project commissioning festival, the Rivers State Government also commissioned the Sir Dr. Peter Odili Cancer and Cardiovascular Disease Diagnosis and Treatment Center, also built by Julius Berger and equipped by General Electric. His Royal Highness, Ado Bayero, CFR, the Emir of Kado, was the Special Guest of Honor at the inauguration of the hospital.
Governor Wike used the event to celebrate the historic cooperation between the Kano Emirate and the people of Rivers. The highly respected Emir prayed for the continuation of the special relationship between the people of Kano and Rivers.
Eng Dr. Richter in his remarks at the ceremony also thanked Governor Wike for the trust placed in Julius Berger to manage the project, which is a pioneering initiative in Nigeria in many important ways. , He described the Center in Port Harcourt as “a modern, state-of-the-art medical facility specializing in providing high-level diagnosis and treatment for chronic diseases in Nigeria”, adding that “The hospital is specifically designed as a cancer treatment center, with advanced healthcare services such as chemotherapy and nuclear medicine.” Dr. Richter stated that the hospital will serve as a catalyst and inspiration as well as a new standard for the development of essential healthcare solutions in Nigeria. Richter added that the Center would make Rivers State a new medical tourism destination.
The Sir Dr. Peter Odili Center for Diagnosis and Treatment of Cardiovascular Diseases and Cancer in Port Harcourt consists of a fully equipped chemotherapy ward, an Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and a Critical Care Unit (CCU) dedicated to patients and areas deprived of isolation beds. It also consists of a pathology laboratory, a radiology department with MRI and CT scan facilities, medical offices, a pharmacy, and a restaurant and cafeteria for patient and visitor refreshments. Richter said that all of the above facilities were envisioned by the Rivers State Government and built by Julius Berger to alleviate human suffering and provide next-level healthcare to Nigerians and the international community in Nigeria. On behalf of the Board and executive management, Dr. Richter praised and thanked Governor Wike for his foresight and vision that led to the ‘momentous project’ now delivered by Julius Berger Nigeria Plc.
The 9the causeway bridge, the Nkpolu-Oroworukwo causeway whose contract was awarded to Julius Berger on Monday 22n/a February 2022, contracted for delivery in 12 months. At the contract signing ceremony in Port Harcourt, Dr. Julius Berger, Eng. Dr. Lars Richter, with palpable professional confidence, had assured Governor Wike and the people of Rivers State that, with the firm commitment of the client , The 9the the flyover would also be successfully delivered on schedule and to the highest technical standard, “the Julius Berger standard”. Within the planned contract schedule, Julius Berger operationally worked and delivered the Nkpolu-Oroworukwo flyover and was commissioned by the Rivers State Government on Thursday 17the November 2022. As the Rivers State government and people celebrated the commissioning of the Nkpolu-Oroworukwo Skybridge with special guest of honor Mr. Peter Obi, Dr. Lars Richter once again thanked Governor Wike for giving him Julius Berger the opportunity to be his technical partner of choice for the major infrastructure transformation and urban renewal of the Rivers State, particularly Port Harcourt. Ing. Dr. Richter also thanked the Nkpolu-Oroworukwo community for their peaceful and helpful cooperation and support during the construction of the project.
Another road project built by Julius Berger, the Mgbuitanwo internal road project in the Emohua local government area, was also put into service on Monday 21st November 2022 in Rivers State. Former Kano State Governor and Defense Minister His Excellency Dr. Rabiu Musa Kwankwanso, Distinguished Member of the Nigerian Society of Engineers (FNSE), was the special guest of honor at the event in Mgbuitanwo, Kano State. Dignitaries at the commissioning ceremonies in Port Harcourt also included Rivers State Lieutenant Governor Her Excellency Dr. (Mrs.) Ipalibo Harry Banigo, DSSRS; members of the State Executive Council; the Honorable Speaker and members of the Rivers State House of Assembly, the President and members of the Rivers State Council of Chiefs; Rivers State women’s, youth, and cultural organizations, as well as members of the press.
