Atletico Madrid will be without Joao Felix for their next couple of games, as the Portuguese forward has been handed a two-match ban by the Spanish Football Federation‘s Competition Committee following his sending off against Athletic Club last weekend.
As such, Joao Felix will miss Atleti‘s games against Getafe and Alaves this week before being available for selection when Los Colchoneros host Barcelona on October 2, just before the international break.
The reasoning behind the 21-year-old receiving a two-game suspension is twofold, as one match is for the initial red card and the second is for throwing the ball into the stands as a way of showing his frustration with the decision made by referee Jesus Gil Manzano.
Atletico’s appeal
Atletico, however, are planning to appeal against the decision made by the Competition Committee.
The club’s legal team have already prepared some arguments, notably focusing on the initial yellow card that Joao Felix received. They believe that a two-match ban is excessive.
