Iranian protesters have sometimes noted that the mullahs spend more money on foreign jihadist terrorists than on their own people. So this may be another attempt by the regime to quell the protests.

“Iran Halts Funding To Palestinian Terror Groups, Sparking Crisis – Report,” By Khaled Abu Toameh, Jerusalem Post, December 11, 2022:

Iran has stopped channeling funds to various Palestinian factions, the Palestinian newspaper Al-Quds revealed on Sunday.

The newspaper quoted unnamed informed sources in Lebanon as saying that the factions are currently suffering from a financial crisis due to the Iranian move, which was taken three months ago.

The sources did not name the factions that have been affected by the move.

However, Hamas, Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ) and the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP) are believed to be among the factions dependent on funding from Iran.

The sources claimed that the factions used Iranian money to pay salaries to their leaders and members and cover the costs of their “various activities.”

In the past, Hamas and PIJ officials have admitted that Iran has been providing financial and military aid to their groups.

The sources said the reason for the interruption in financial aid was unknown, although it may be related to ongoing protests and violence in Iran…
