Islamic Republic of Iran executes freedom protester, convicted of ‘enmity against Allah’

“The only reward for those who wage war against Allah and his messenger and fight to sow corruption on earth will be that they be killed or crucified, or have their hands and feet cut off on opposite sides, or be expelled.” from the earth. Such will be their degradation in this world, and in the hereafter theirs will be a terrible condemnation.” (Quran 5:33)

“Rahnavard Majesty: Iran Carries Out Second Execution Over Protests”, by David Gritten and Sam Hancock, BBC News, December 12, 2022:

Iran says it has publicly hanged a 23-year-old in what is the second execution linked to recent anti-government protests.

Majidreza Rahnavard, 23, was hanged early Monday morning in the city of Mashhad, the judiciary said.

A court convicted him of “enmity against God” after finding that he had stabbed to death two members of the paramilitary Basij Resistance Force.

Rahnavard was hanged just 23 days after his arrest.

Human rights groups have warned that protesters are being sentenced to death after phony trials without due process.

His mother was not informed of the execution until after his death.

His family was then given a cemetery name and plot number. When they appeared, the security agents were burying her body.

The opposition activist collective 1500tasvir tweeted that an official called the family at 07:00 local time and told them: “We killed your son and buried his body in the Behesht-e Reza cemetery.”

The Mizan judiciary news agency said Rahnavard was hanged “in the presence of a group of Mashhadi citizens” and published several photographs taken before dawn that allegedly showed the execution.

In the images you can see a man hanging from the cable in front of the spectators; it is not clear how many people attended the execution, nor who they were.

Rahnavard was denied a lawyer of his choice for his trial. The lawyer they gave him did not defend himself….
