The IRS recently declared that it has sent out all of the stimulus checks to eligible people in the United States from the third round of payments as part of the American Rescue Planyet you might still find that you are owed some money from the stimulus package.
In order to get this additional money, you will need to have been sent the Letter 6475 from the IRSas this is an official record of your stimulus money in 2021. Also, it shows what you are entitled to and whether you should make a claim on your 2021 tax return when you file in 2022.
The third round of economic impact payments saw the IRS distribute more than 160 million checks to Americans worth up to $1,400 per adults, in addition to $1,400 for each dependent.
If you found that your circumstances changed in 2021, such as having a baby or adding a qualified child to your family, you will be eligible to claim $1,400 for each new child.
The aforementioned third round of stimulus checks were based on your taxes in 2020, so if you earned less money in 2021, you will need to use the Letter 6475 if you are planning to claim any additional funds from the adjusted recovery rebate tax credit.
I haven’t received Letter 6475
However, if you did not receive any money from the third stimulus checkyou will not have been sent the Letter 6475. Instead, you will have to create an IRS online account in order to see your economic impact payments.
Should you find that you were eligible but did not receive the third stimulus checkyou can claim the money back via the recovery tax credit when you file your 2021 tax return.
It is worth bearing in mind that the Letter 6475 is different to the Letter 1444-Cas this showed the amount you were paid and how it was delivered, however you should not use this to prepare your 2021 return.
