“Narrated `Aisha and `Abdullah bin `Abbas: When the illness of the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) became severe, he covered his face with a Khamisa, but when he became short of breath, he would remove it from his face and say: ‘¡ It is so! May Allah curse the Christian Jews because they took the graves of their prophets as places of worship. With that he warned his followers to imitate them, doing what they did. “’Muslims Who Imitate Christians Will Be Punished On Judgment Day’: Deoband Maulana Abdul Qasmi Calls Birthday Celebrations ‘Haram’”, OpIndia, Nov 25, 2022:

In a new video posted by Darul Uloom Deoband, the birthday celebration has been described as a Christian festival. Muslims are being called upon not to celebrate birthdays, Maulana Asad Qasmi said in the video. Qasmi has also called on Muslims to refrain from adopting the ways of Christians while following the path shown by the Quran and Hadith.

Maulana Asad Qasmi is the Mohtamim of Jamia Shaikh ul Hind. The video of him is going viral on social media. In the viral video, he referred to the Muslims’ Prophet Muhammad and said there is no mention of celebrating his birthday at any point in his life. He said that Muhammad’s companions did not celebrate birthdays either. Stating that it is beyond his comprehension why Muslims celebrate birthdays, Maulana Qasmi said that Christians celebrate birthdays and Muslims are simply imitating them.

Describing the birthday as a conspiracy to create something new within Shariat, Maulana described it as outside the Islamic rules. Maulana Qasmi called on Muslims to stop the practices of non-Muslims.

Citing a hadith, he said that anyone who follows someone else’s ways will be punished on the day of judgment. Maulana called on the Muslims to follow the path shown by the Messenger of Allah and remain under his banner on the day of judgement. He said that Muslims’ habit of adopting things outside of the Qur’an and Hadith is a ‘Khurafat’ (meaning mischief).

According to media reports, Maulana Asad Qasmi also said that DJing in nikah is wrong. He said: “Horse riding and fireworks are not in the established wedding custom in Islam. Nikah by Muslims should also be done through Islamic ways.”…
