A furniture board is a sheet material made of natural wood, created by gluing wooden planks (lamellas) together. As a rule, the structures are rectangular or square, and the gluing process takes place under pressure, due to which a continuous web is formed. Technological features
Products are produced in accordance with GOSTs for the processing of raw materials from wood. The technological process includes several stages:
- Drying of raw materials;
- Elimination of defects;
- Trimming in accordance with the required dimensions;
- Splicing blanks;
- Gluing, calibration;
- Grinding, packing.
Do not confuse furniture board with MDF. The first type of material is made from timber, the second – from wood fibers. The technology for creating MDF is based on high-pressure compression, and gluing is relevant for furniture panels.
There are two types of shields: solid-lamellar and spliced. Jointed is made from small planed bars glued along the length. Assembly most often occurs in a checkerboard pattern – this makes the structure as stable as possible. The main advantage of spliced shields is the price – products are cheaper than solid-lamella counterparts.
For the manufacture of all-lamellar, large boards are used, spliced in width, the board remains solid along the length. The main advantage of such material is the maximum proximity to the natural analogue. Aesthetically, it is more attractive than the spliced model.
There is an opinion that spliced panels are suitable, for example, for kitchen worktops, while solid ones are suitable for stairs. But there are no clear criteria, both types are equally good for finishing and making various furniture. Both finger-jointed and all-lamellar furniture panels are a durable and environmentally friendly product.
