Pablo Milanes was born on February 24, 1943 in Bayamo, Cuba. The youngest of five siblings, Milanes started singing at an early age and quickly developed a talent for it. He usually competed and won domestic competitions for radio and television.

His family eventually moved to Havana, where Milanes briefly attended the Havana Conservatory of Music. Although his time there was short, Milanes credited the Conservatory with much of his early inspiration. Outside of his formal coaching, Milanes has appeared in America and other world events for musical effect. Throughout his career, Milanes has been recognized as one of the most influential musicians in Cuba. To this day, his music continues to encourage new generations of Cuban artists.
