Dapo Abiodun, the governor of Ogun State, has presented a N472.25 billion budget proposal for the 2023 financial year to the State House of Assembly.
The governor presented the budget titled: Budget for Sustainable Development and Development to the lawmakers last Thursday during the plenary.
In the proposed budget, while N201.84 billion is proposed as recurrent expenditure, N270.41 billion is budgeted for capital expenditure.
The budget: The budget, which was presented for possible passage, has more than N100 billion more than the 2022 budget, which is N350.7 billion.
While N79.47 billion is proposed for staff costs, N21.12 billion is proposed for social contribution and social benefits; N39.90 billion for public debt repayment, and overhead cost was put at N61.35 billion.
The word of the governor: while presenting the budget, he urged the lawmakers to scrutinize the proposed budget carefully and come back for approval.
According to him, the figures represent the wishes of the people of the state in the various town hall meetings on the budget held.
- He said, “I want to ask the leadership of the State House of Assembly to ensure that the budget that I am putting here today, is fully scrutinized but easily scrutinized and returned eagerly for my approval.
- “I say this with all the responsibility because all the content comes from the wishes expressed by our people in the various town hall meetings on the budget. It is also an expression of their confidence in your government and party. This is the our state knows and I will appreciate it if we keep our set standard of signing the Appropriation Law before the 1st of January of the coming year.
