Tthe comic book world is in mourning after the news that George Perez, the artist and screenwriter who helped reboot Wonder Woman and also illustrated The New Teen Titans, has died at 67.
A native of the South Bronx, the DC comics legend died of pancreatic cancer in the company of his wife.

In this regard, Jim Lee, editor and chief creative officer of DC, through a statement, shared his grief over the loss of the artist, as he acknowledged the contribution of his talent to the company.
“The artistic style of George Prez was both dynamic and incredibly expressive. His art was the perfect canvas for telling some of the most important events in D.C. history. While he will be sorely missed, his work will live on with countless fans as well as all the talent he has influenced over the years.”
George Prez’s work was multifaceted as he was not only a screenwriter, but also a co-programmer, cartoonist and inker.
Associated with superheroes
In the 80s, he also worked with writer Marv Wolfman on The New Teen Titans.
He also became known as the “creative force” behind Crisis on Infinite Earths, which celebrated the 50th anniversary of DC Comics in 1985.
two years later, Perez was involved in the reboot of Wonder Woman, and his contribution was to bring the character closer to her roots in Greek mythology.
Little known is the fact that the artist designed the costume of the villain Lex Luthor in Action Comics’ Superman comic.
Between 2003 and 2004, George Prez illustrated the DC Comics-Marvel “JLA/Avenger” crossover.with superheroes from the Justice League of America and the Avengers.
A memorial service for the artist is scheduled for Sunday, May 22 and will be open to the public at the Megacon Orlando convention.
