Ford Commercial Vehicles has teased the upcoming Tourneo Custom EV ahead of its official debut on May 9, 2022. Ford Pro is eager to expand its lineup of all-electric light commercial vehicles and has started production of the E-Transit, making the next model of the Euro-focused Tourneo awaiting a revival.
As the company aims to be carbon neutral in the European market by 2035, Ford said the passenger car represents an important step towards achieving those goals. While the overall plan includes the launch of seven new electric vehicles for the European market by 2024, including the Puma crossover, the U.S. should probably be released instead of the EcoSport, as well as many factory revamps in preparation for all-electric powertrains.
The Ford Pro eventually wants to see electric versions of the E-Transit and Tourneo Custom EV as well as the Transit Courier, Tourneo Courier and Transit Custom. Customs are all due to launch in 2023, while the smaller Courier van may not be launched until 2024.
There are also plans to launch two electric crossovers in Europe using the Volkswagen MEB platform. The first of these should be a five-seat mid-size car with a range of 310 miles and will go into production at Ford’s Cologne Electrification Center in Germany in 2023. Another is said to be a sports crossover, due in 2024, and we may not see its debut until next year.
As for the Tourneo Custom, which replaces the model that debuted in 2012 (with a facelift in 2017), it may retain the ability to choose petrol, diesel, mild-hybrid and plug-in hybrid powertrains if all-electric drive isn’t suitable. Fleet demand for minivans. It should also be the model for Volkswagen’s next-generation transporter, thanks to a co-development agreement between Ford and Volkswagen.
