Ford is recalling 39,000 2021 model year Expeditions and Lincoln Navigators due to fire hazards.
Owners are asked to park their vehicles outside until the company can fix the problem.
ford says still don’t know cause of fire.
16 fires were reported, 14 of which occurred in rental vehicles. Some happen when the car is turned off.
“Some customers have reported burning odors and smoke from the engine compartment of the front passenger while driving,” Ford said. Some of the fires appear to have started “in the rear of the engine compartment, near the passenger side of the vehicle.”
Still, Ford hasn’t advised owners to stop driving the luxury barge SUV.
“We are working around the clock to determine the root cause of this issue and subsequent remedies so customers can continue to enjoy their vehicles,” Jeffrey Marentic, general manager of Ford Passenger Vehicles, said in a statement.
This recall appears to be limited to shipments and navigators manufactured between December 1, 2020 and April 30, 2021.
Ford also recalled 310,000 heavy-duty trucks because airbags may not inflate in a collision, and recalled fewer than 500 Mustang Mach-Es to fix a software glitch that could cause unexpected acceleration or deceleration.
