At least five people, including an off-duty police officer, have been killed in a new shooting in the U.S. in a community east of Raleigh, North Carolina, authorities reported Thursday.
Two other people were injured and the main suspect, a man in a camouflage uniform and carrying a double-barreled shotgun, has been arrested, the security force added at a news conference.
Some Police patrols and ambulances rushed to the scene. The incident, which occurred at around 5.30pm local time (9.30pm GMT), took about three hours from alert to arrest of the suspect.
North Carolina Gov. Roy Cooper, a Democrat, tweeted that he had spoken with Raleigh Mayor Mary Ann Baldwin and Ordered state security forces to assist in investigations.
For his part, Baldwin said today was “sad and tragic” for the city of Raleigh and called for an end to “senseless” violence in the United States.
