February 2018 Nicolas Cruz (then 19 years old) killed 17 people (14 students and 3 adults) and injured 17 others at his Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland.near Fort Lauderdale, Florida, during a mass shooting that moved the country.
On April 4, 2022, a jury was formed to decide on his sentence: either he would be sentenced to life imprisonment, as required by his defense, or to death, which is the only solution considered by the prosecutor. Debates and negotiations are expected to last several weeks.
