India’s premier esports event platform, Gamerji, has raised $3 million behind the scenes in Pre-Sequence A from GVFL (formerly Gujarat Enterprise Finance Restricted) and Unicorn India Ventures, which has supported Gamerji since its early levels. Funds raised can be used to develop the platform in recently launched global markets across the MENA region with plans to launch SEA starting with Indonesia and the Philippines. The company plans to additionally use these funds towards creating technology options and EaaS (esports as a service) to increase knowledge about online gaming.

Founded in 2019 by professional and serial gaming entrepreneur Soham Thacker, Gamerji from Ahmedabad aims to bridge the gap between novice and professional players with its tournaments. The company allows players to compete, arrange matches, chat and get recognized for their gaming expertise.

Soham Thacker, CEO and founder of Gamerji says: “The gaming skyline in India has changed drastically. Stakeholders and aspiring gamers spend more time understanding the gaming industry. This resulted in the rapid development of the industry. Gamerji had the upper hand, and now we’ve launched in the Middle East. We are also able to expand into new geographies and the recent capital injection will help us meet our growth goals ahead of schedule.”

Gamerji has raised $5 million in funding so far along with this spherical.

Over the past 12 months, Gamerji’s customer base has grown from one million to over 4 million, hosting tournaments for over 22 major esports titles. Additionally, it has started operations worldwide in the United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia, where it has over 100,000 players in the area. Gamerji’s technique is to build a large base in India and host cross-border tournaments in different areas. Currently, the platform hosts over 400 tournaments a day across 22 titles, including BGMI, Free Hearth Max, Name of Responsibility Cell, Conflict Royale, CS:GO, and more.

Based on the 2022 FICCI-EY Media & Entertainment Report Tuning to Shopper, the online gaming phase is projected to be a success of INR 153 billion by 2024 with a CAGR of 15% and become the fourth largest phase of India’s M&E sector, pushed by improvements in NFT, metaverse and esports.
